BY QSR NEWS – Vitality Bowls is spearheading a campaign to shed light on food allergy awareness, advocacy and education.

Throughout the month of May, Vitality Bowls cafes across the country are encouraging guests to try the Bowl of the Month—the Super Berry Bowl—in support of the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Connection Team (FAACT). For each Super Berry Bowl sold, Vitality Bowls will donate 10 percent of the proceeds to FAACT, a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing education about food allergies, anaphylaxis and enhancing the safety of children and adults worldwide affected by food allergies. This is the second year of the promotion.

“Vitality Bowls was created out of the need for a healthy, food allergy-friendly zone for our own daughter, and we’re proud to offer a kitchen environment designed to avoid allergen cross-contact so people with food allergies can feel good about eating at our cafes,” says Tara Gilad, co-founder of Vitality Bowls. “But, there is so much more work that needs to be done to educate people on the true dangers that food allergies pose. FAACT does an incredible job educating people and advocating for food allergy sufferers, and we are proud to help support them in their mission.”

Vitality Bowls will also be donating tickets for Disneyland to one of the families in FAACT’s Los Angeles-area support group.

The Super Berry Bowl has particular meaning to Brian and Kathy Hom and his family, who own two Vitality Bowls cafes in California. After losing their son to an allergic reaction, the Hom family dedicated their lives to spreading awareness about food allergies. The Super Berry Bowl was created in their son’s remembrance, honoring his love for berries. The bowl contains açaí blended with strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and topped with organic hemp/flax seed granola, strawberries, blueberries, mulberries, goji berries and honey.

Many Vitality Bowls locations also include a full-service coffee bar, complete with espresso and superfood drinks that are packed with antioxidant-rich açaí, pitaya and matcha. Most cafes offer organic cold brew nitrogen-poured coffee and organic kombucha on-tap.

Roy and Tara Gilad founded Vitality Bowls in 2011 in San Ramon, California. The duo started the superfood café concept as a result of discovering their daughter’s severe food allergies and wanting to find safe, healthy food alternatives. Since franchising began in 2014, the brand has seen growth with more than 100 cafes open or in development.

COVID-19 information

As we diligently follow COVID-19 updates and developments from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), most Vitality Bowls locations remain open as our team closely follows all public health recommendations to keep our customers, employees and communities healthy and safe.

Our goal has always been to provide the most nutritious food possible to our customers, and we are dedicated to that mission now more than ever.

In order to achieve our mission and bring healthful offerings to our customers, we are modifying a few aspects of the Vitality Bowls experience, such as limiting all dining experiences to take-out and delivery only. Orders can be placed through our mobile apponline, or through third-party delivery sites in available areas. Please contact your local Vitality Bowls for more information.

We are confident that we will get through this together as a community. In the meantime, Vitality Bowls is here for you, to provide healthy, nutritious meals for you and your family.
